Suspiria

He says he had been dreaming about it for more Alpha than 30 years. After triumphing with Call Me By Your Name, his successful pastoral and homosexual idyll, the Italian director Luca Guadagnino felt able to face a long-cherished project: a remake of Suspiria, an untouchable classic of Triple 9 terror by a master of the genre like Dario Argento. The bet was double or nothing and ended yesterday with a relative success in the Lido, where the screening ended with major applause and some marginal whistle that aspired to spoil the party, reflecting the division of opinions that his film eventually generated.

Guadagnino has taken the story to his land, to one of those polyglot and somewhat lame worlds that perhaps only exist in his imagination, but the skeleton of the story is practically identical. A young American (Dakota Johnson), who grew up in a community of Mennonites in Ohio, moves to Germany to study at a dance school that will become the scene of strange events. The faculty is headed by Madame Blanc, an eminence of contemporary dance, inspired by Pina Bausch and Martha Graham, whom Tilda Swinton interprets in her fifth Nappily Ever After collaboration with the director (and who also plays, without revealing more than the account, a second role in this movie).
