Fahrenheit 451

HBO decided to trust Ramin Bahrani to take care of the new adaptation of ‘Fahrenheit 451’ that the US chain is debuting today. The influential novel by Ray Bradbury had already made the leap to film in 1966 with a remarkable film directed by François Truffaut, but since then the most remarkable Cold Skin was a theatrical version in which the writer himself participated. Too much time without cinema or television coming back to her.

This new adaptation is preceded by a cold reception at the Cannes Festival, where its world premiere took place. Today May 19 is when it finally opens on HBO – although Borg vs McEnroe in Spain we will still have to wait until tomorrow – and I would love to tell you that this is another great success on the part of the network, but the truth is that we are facing an update insufficient that burns too few virtues.

65 years have passed since the publication of the original novel by Bradbury and the truth is that the ideas put forward in it have not only not been retired, but are still valid today. However, the ways of posing them did require a convenient update to better adjust them to the times and the great technological advances that have been in all this time.

That is something that Bahrani knows how Ferdinand to accurately reflect in his first minutes, transferring the progress of technology to turn them into an excellent weapon for the control of the masses. However, this new adaptation does not fall into the error of saturating in this way to hide or qualify other aspects, since it does not stop being a letter of introduction to justify the need to return on Fahrenheit 451.
