Deepwater Horizon

TORONTO – The name Deepwater The Light Between Oceans Horizon is largely synonymous with environmental catastrophe and corporate negligence. For Mike Williams, who survived the explosion of an oil rig in April 2010 by diving into the Gulf of Mexico from a height of several floors, it is something different.

“The 11 brothers who died were immediately forgotten The Handmaiden ,” Williams said from his home in Sulfur Springs, Texas. “We understand oil. It’s bad, yes. The birds are dying and the shrimp and the crabs and all those things. But those are not brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, sons, daughters. The shrimp can come back. People, we can not bring those guys back. ”

The film “Deepwater Horizon” by Peter Berg, which The Killing of a Sacred Deer premieres on Friday, focuses on the human cost of a true tragedy. Mark Wahlberg acts as Williams, a central figure in a segment of the 60 Minutes news program that focused on Deepwater Horizon workers.

“There are probably many different ways to tell this story or any story, but I like this approach,” said Berg (“Friday Night Lights,” “Battleship”). “I was very touched by the fact that those 11 men lost their lives and that I did not even know it before I saw the ’60 Minutes’ piece.
