Bullitt County

“Bullitt County,” an independent film shot in Kentucky and Indiana, tempts viewers into jumping to the premature conclusion that they’re watching yet The Row another predictable yarn about interlopers who meet their doom in the lawless wilds of backwoods America.

But the movie, which screens Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Xscape Theatres Blakenbaker, inverts the standard “Deliverance” tropes at several turns, sometimes to great Transit effect. Writer/Director David McCracken delivers an ambitious flick that’s really more character study than grindhouse horror, and the result is an enjoyable watch, particularly when you consider that “Bullitt County” is a passion project funded largely through Kickstarter, local generosity and sweat equity.

McCracken, who also stars in the film, and producer Darc Josh Riedford will be on hand for a Q&A at the Wednesday screening here in Louisville.
