Aladdin

Aladdin This May 23 premieres in Colombia the live-action version of ‘Aladdin’. Directed by Guy Ritchie, this film takes us back in the past to those years of childhood in which the Genie of the Lamp became one of our favorite characters.

In these modern times it seems as if everything is looking for its original channel, the backward look has become Overcomer nostalgic mobile of the contemporary generations and it is almost a custom to try to recover those things from the past that made us happy. It happens that, with the cinema, something similar happens and for a couple of years now, the tendency to transform into flesh and bone those unforgettable characters that marked our childhood has been presented.

In 1992, Disney published a movie of princesses that would change the way we had seen this genre for a long time, ‘Aladdin’ not only put on the screen a princess of a different race than what we were used to, but also, she was no longer the only protagonist to give the children a film with which they could identify, a male character worthy of inspiring the little ones. Then, on the screen appeared Aladdin, this young rogue, intelligent, audacious and very funny that gave us all the possible smiles in a Disney movie.

It turns out that in 2019, 27 years after the original delivery, Booksmart Disney risked a new version of the classic ‘Aladdin’, but in Live Action, that is, played by real life characters. And we who already had the opportunity to see it, we tell you how we thought so that you prepare.

If we had to describe this version in a single word we would have to say that Aladdin (2019) is simply spectacular. Despite the prejudice with which we were due to the amount of comments regarding the casting, there are few, very few complaints that we have regarding this film.

‘Aladdin’ (2019), is an audiovisual display that bristles the skin Pete’s Dragon from the first images and even more from the first sounds because if something must be said is that this time the music of the Disney classic was taken to another level: the voice of Will Smith who plays the Lamp Genius, singing is like getting up and clapping in the middle of the movie theater and also, unlike the original one, in this one the traditional and typical sounds of music are much more present Arabic folkloric

Take the musical classics of the film as ‘Prince Ali’, ‘Nights of Arabia’ and the long awaited ‘An ideal world’, but also risked some new songs that fit perfectly to the history we already know.

One of the first critics that the advances brought with it was to have chosen Will Smith to interpret the mythical Genius, and it is understandable because for all those Monster Hunter who watched the movie of ’92, it is impossible to dissociate the Genius from the image of the unforgettable Robin Williams and by Of course, replacing it seemed an impossible task. However, we must say that there is no one in the current film industry who could have done better than Will Smith: next to him came the laughter, the nonsense and of course, the genius and magic. On the other hand, the protagonists also stood out: although Mena Massoud needs a couple of minutes at the beginning of the film so that we can really see him in his role as Aladdin, towards the middle of the film we fall in love with his mischief and intelligence. Naomi Scott, in the role of Jasmine is perfect, but above all the design of the costumes and hairstyles that are capable of leaving anyone open-mouthed.

Although Marwan Kenzari, who plays Jafar, The Lion King looks very good in his role and the costumes also honor the original character, the performance is a little short, because this new Jafar is not as terrifying as if it was his version of 1992.

One of the most impressive things about this movie has to do with the choreography, choreography that makes you want to get up from the position to dance. They are reminiscent of the traditional dances of Bollywood cinema, that Indian film industry that has been characterized by the high musical presence, the dances and the waste of colors in costumes and set design.

In general terms, Aladdin (2019), is in itself a tribute to one of the great classics of children’s films and extols the characters, music and history that made us happy in 1992.
